A Ghost Story:
I decided that I would stick with my pirate theme for this year. No other reason but the fact that I enjoyed it and want to expand on it further. Although I have been working on stuff for this year, I had this underlying ‘need’ to come up with a story for the display. I didn’t want the usual pirate display, but to bring a little life and history to why there would be a shipwreck and pirates in my front yard. Things I had to have in the story: - Captain & his ship
- Nasty, murderous crew
- Ghost and his revenge
- Tragic ending with a shipwreck
First thing was to come up with a good name for a ship. After doing a little searching on the web, I decided on The Baetylus. The story takes place around the early 1630s here in Maryland. Not looking for historical accuracy, just wanted a place and time where this ghost story ‘could’ have taken place. There are many people around here who spend a great deal of time out on the water. A nautical themed Halloween display fits perfectly in our community. With my ship named, the place and time picked out I began writing my ghost story: The Legend of The Baetylus. I have been working on it for almost 3 days and I’m fairly happy with it for now. I have decided to put it away for now before the final edit. I will post the ghost story when it is completed. To be continued … |

More static There are a few "improvements" I want to make on my pirate ship for this year. I want to make the shipwreck look even better then it did last year. Some of my ideas to add this year are: Ship's Anchor Figurehead Rigging & Sails So, I started my second prop for H09, a ship's anchor. I know I really need to get working on some animated props, but I get going back to my paper mache projects. |
